In the year 600, fourteen centuries before New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin’s declaration of a Chocolate City, the cocoa bean was considered the ultimate status symbol in Mayan and Aztec cultures. The beans were used as currency and those wealthy enough to have an excess of beans used them to make a delicious chocolate drink which gave them “wisdom and power.”

So under the guise of the cocoa bean, with increased brain power, NOLA will be rebuilt the city with wisdom, starting with a Jazz Park. But hasn’t New Orleans neglected City Park, a huge park with so much potential, for years?
